The mission of the Ottawa Hills Elementary Art program is to provide a unique educational experience in which students gain artistic skills, strengthen visual literacy, and develop a life-long appreciation and in-depth knowledge of the Great Masters of art, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Picasso and Vincent van Gogh. Students learn self-expression, artistic discipline, independence and collaboration, as well as a comprehensive appreciation of our rich artistic heritage. Specific skills, such as drawing, painting and clay, are carefully cultivated and challenged, inspired by various cultures throughout history. Children are encouraged to explore, create and reach their own full artistic potential.
Opportunities beyond the classroom include participation in art displays and our annual Art Fair competition; after school Art Camps; Artsonia’s world-wide art gallery; Toledo Museum of Art tours; and creating art for Ottawa Hills Green Bear Ball fundraiser and many other community charities and organizations. We believe that creating art is one of the best ways to express yourself and communicate visually with others.
