Upcoming Tournament Action

The Green Bears will face Vanlue in District Semi Final Baseball on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:45, Findlay High School. The District Finals will be held on Friday, May 24 7:00 pm at Findlay High School. The Boys' Tennis Team has advanced all seven into Sectional Finals to held Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 am at Defiance College. The Districts will be held on Thursday, May 23, at Bowling Green State University at 9:00 am.

On March 19, the Board of Education approved the implementation of a one-to-one laptop program for Grades 7 through 12, beginning with the 2013-2014 school year. This technology upgrade also includes the addition of mobile laptop carts at the elementary school. Since then, the district has been hard at work putting the pieces into places for the addition of new technology.

You be the Chemist Challenge

On Saturday, April 20 dozens of students from the Toledo Area gathered to participate in the state finals of the You Be The Chemist Challenge. Fourteen students from Ottawa Hills competed including Specer Colton, Jon Yalcincaya, Natalia Cortes, Alicia de la Serna, Deepta Paramasamy, Tony Zhou, Sean Kazmi, Adit Mukherjee, Rahul Bais, Kevin Kalnas, Shana Capur, Hunter Sieben, and Paulina Mendez.

smART Show Examines the Quotidian Object

Hundreds of parents, students, staff and community members turned out for the annual smART show for an amazing exhibition of student creativity, critical thinking and art across the curriculum. This year’s theme, “The Quotidian Object” encouraged visitors to consider how artists and thinkers have used the everyday object for observation and inspiration.

Les Boules de Printemps Tournament

Madame Hanlon and Monsieur Chappuies transformed the front lawn into what could have been a park in the middle of Paris for the annual boules tournament. The French Club sponsored the event as a way to celebrate and learn about French culture.

Crime Scene Investigators Comes to Class

Science teacher Jeremy Nixon's freshman honors biology class took the role of crime scene investigators this past week at OHHS. The students used gel electrophoresis DNA analysis equipment that was donated to Mr. Nixon and Ottawa Hills by Dr. Bina Joe and the Center for Hypertension and Personalized Medicine at UTMC.

Students Attend Access to Justice

On Tuesday April 30, several Ottawa Hills High School students attended the annual access to Justice Awards Dinner. The event included more than 500 attendees including local and regional community leaders, public officials, attorneys, judges, and community advocates. The keynote speaker was Bryan A. Stevenson, Harvard Law School and Harvard School of Government graduate and NYU School of Law professor who is the Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama.

Specializing in affordable and supportive housing and schools, TONA projects include renovations and new construction for multi-family affordable housing developments including Neighborhood Homes and Neighborhood Redevelopment Programs for the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD); Covenant House New York; the NYC School Construction Authority and Newark Public Schools; publicly funded supportive housing projects; and healthcare institutions such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
