TAAC Hall of Fame adds 2 members with OH roots

A star athlete and former athletic director for Ottawa Hills were inducted into the Toledo Area Athletic Conference (TAAC) Hall of Fame this month. The honors for Kimberly (Kos) Southall and Tim Erickson came during a dinner ceremony November 16 at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. With their induction, Ottawa Hills now has 16 representatives in the TAAC Hall of Fame, located inside the Seagate Convention Center in downtown Toledo. The Hall of Fame started in 2000.

Kimberly (Kos) Southall

Kim (Kos) SouthallKimberly (Kos) Southall is a 1993 graduate who earned 12 varsity letters while playing field hockey, basketball, and softball. She was named “Outstanding Female Athlete” in her senior class. Highlights from her high school career include First Team All-Conference her sophomore through senior years; District 7 Coaches All-Star Team her sophomore year; and TAAC Player of the Year as a junior for basketball. She was named to the All-Ohio Team for field hockey her senior year. She was a captain for all three teams her senior seasons.

She was a member of the 1992 State Championship Field Hockey team and the 1992-93 TAAC championship basketball team. She went on to play field hockey at Boston University (BU) and was inducted into the BU Hall of Fame in 2004. She is now the director of athletics and the field hockey coach at Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Newton, Mass.

During her acceptance speech, Mrs. Southall stated: “Playing sports at Ottawa Hills helped shape me as the person I am today.”

Tim Erickson

Tim EricksonMr. Erickson served as the district’s athletic director from 1990 to 2017. During that time, he was president of TAAC five times.

During his career in high school athletics, he was honored numerous times by the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA), including “Citation Awards” in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017;  “State Award of Merit” in 2009; and a “Distinguished Service Award” in 2015.

He also received an “Award of Excellence” in 2015 from the OIAAA and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA). He served on the OHSAA board of directors from 2011 to 2013. Lastly, he received the “State Award of Merit” in 2015  from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

Mr. Erickson graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and a master’s degree from Ohio University. He served as an athletic trainer for the professional baseball team Seattle Mariners from 1985 to 87; at Ferris State University from 1989 to 1990; and at the University of Toledo from 1990 to 1993.
