Surrounded by Supporters, Class of 2019 Begins New Journey

Families and friends crowded the John Lindsay Court Thursday (May 30) to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2019. The 79th Annual Commencement ceremony honored 82 graduates. The evening’s three commencement speakers were students Mazin Omer, James Schwann, and Edward Shimborske. The top 85 percent of the class received 259 scholarships from 74 universities and colleges totaling more than $10.8 million in awards.

Other significant achievements by this class: four perfect scores (36) on the ACT; five National Merit Finalists and one National Merit Commended Scholar; 20 Summa Cum Laude, seven Magna Cum Laude, and 11 Cum Laude graduates; 50 Honors Diplomas; 53 Presidential Awards; and 29 members of the National Honor Society.

For its class gift, the students raised and donated money to purchase new furniture for the sun room and to the Kadens Family Health & Wellness Capital Campaign. To view the live-streamed version of Commencement, visit the district’s Facebook page.
