OH juniors Danielle Sun, Kavita Parikh, and Sophia Stone (pictured above, left to right) will speak at GirlForce, an upcoming event that is part of "International Day of the Girl" sponsored locally by Women of Toledo. The free event is Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and takes place in the Thompson Student Union at the University of Toledo.
The students would love to see familiar faces watching their presentations. They encourage girls and families to come and hear about their experiences and what Women of Toledo is all about (all three are involved with the local nonprofit).
Kavita and Danielle will speak as "Steminists" regarding their advocacy for Women in STEM (specifically through their robotics team) and how girls can overcome odds and get involved with STEM. Kavita also will talk about her experience as a NASA SEES intern this summer as she worked on a project to design a Martian habitat for future astronauts.
Sophia’s presentation will be about her experience this summer with Global Leadership Adventures, where she worked with children in Tanzania for a month.
Please refer to the flyer for additional information and register for the event.
Since 2012, Oct. 11 has been marked as the "International Day of the Girl" by the United Nations. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
