Student organizes toy drive for local hospital

Posted On: Friday, December 6, 2019

Please join 7th grader Rose Hajjar as she plans something special for the families spending their holidays at ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital.

For four days starting Monday (Dec. 9), there will be a large toy donation box outside the Junior/Senior High School main office. Rose is collecting new and unwrapped toys, books, and other gifts for children at the hospital. Just one gift per student is more than enough.

The hospital’s Department of Child Life said the greatest need is for toys for infants and toddlers. Finding developmentally appropriate items for these age groups can be difficult. And in the winter season, the majority of the hospital's admissions are for these age group.

The type of toys being sought include:

  • Sensory toys with music, lights, and animal sounds
  • Rattles and teethers
  • stacking rings and mobiles
  • sound machines (such as those featuring heartbeat or summer rain)
  • bathtub toys
  • board books and vinyl books
  • dolls with cloth or stitched eyes (beaded eyes are a choking hazard)
  • small balls in varying shapes for little hands
  • toddler cars and trucks
