Ribbon-cutting ceremony

Ribbon-cutting honors were shared by (from left) Ben McMurray, principal of Ottawa Hills Junior/Senior High School; Superintendent Dr. Adam Fineske; George Lathrop, president of the Ottawa Hills Schools Foundation; Gary Cates, chief philanthropy officer at ProMedica; Leslie Chapman; honorary campaign chair Pete Kadens ('96); Jackie (Hylant) Berenzweig ('93), chair of The Kadens Family Health & Wellness Capital Campaign; and Erica Silk ('89), executive director of the Foundation and the district's director of development and alumni relations.

The Kadens Family Fitness Center, an idea that started as a vision and a challenge by an Ottawa Hills alumnus, became reality Friday when a ribbon-cutting officially started a new era in student health and wellness.

Using golden scissors on green ribbon, speakers and other dignitaries ceremoniously unveiled the 4,000-square-foot facility; about 100 guests attended the event and tour that followed. The space becomes a classroom starting Monday. The groundbreaking was May 23; the campaign started Oct. 2, 2019, when Pete (’96) and Amy (Robbins) (’99) Kadens announced their leadership gift to the district.
