Fitness Center joins state’s reopening efforts

Posted On: Saturday, May 23, 2020

The Kadens Family Fitness Center begins a "soft" reopening Tuesday (May 26) to serve Ottawa Hills students only. The center will have limited hours and new operating rules while following all guidance as set by Responsible RestartOhio and the Lucas County Health Department.

A team of district coaches, staff, and administrators drafted the reopening procedures for the facility, which opened in January to much fanfare. The OH procedures add conditions beyond the opening instructions set by the state for gyms, dance instruction studios, and other personal fitness venues.

During its three days of operation next week, the facility will be staffed by Michael Yuschak, the center’s coordinator. No more than 15 students at a time will be allowed. Those students will be checked in before starting a 45-minute workout session. There are only three sessions per day; time before and after each session will be used for additional cleaning.

Mr. Yuschak sent students at the Junior/Senior High School an email Friday with links to the online sign-up forms. There are three time slots available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 1:30 p.m., 2:45 p.m., and 4 p.m. Summer hours will be determined and shared next week.

Questions about the opening can be directed to Mr. Yuschak at

(NOTE: There will be no access to Junior/Senior High School for students at the facility. That building remains closed as part of the statewide school closing order issued by Gov. DeWine. While adjacent to the Junior/Senior High School and accessible from it, The Kadens Family Fitness Center is a standalone structure for fire code purposes. Therefore, it is able to open along with other facilities of its kind across the state.)
