Quiz Bowl '14-'15

Welcome to the Ottawa Hills High School Academic Quiz Bowl Team Page for the 2014-2015 Season!

2015 NAQT High School Small School National Championship: Atlanta Hilton Hotel, Atlanta, GA; April 24-26, 2015!

Ottawa Hills Quiz Bowl places in a tie for 25th place at the 2015 NAQT Small School National Academic Quiz Team Championships!!

The Green Bears had an intense day, with eight of the nine matches they played involving back-and-forth affairs that were very nerve-wracking! Fortunately, the team pulled out 5 wins to make the playoffs. This was a great achievement as Ottawa Hills was in a very competitive bracket! Sadly, they were eliminated in their second game of the playoffs in a match that saw eleven lead changes and two time outs called in the final minute of the match. Even though they fell short in that crucial match, the team of Kathleen Johnson, Adam Wright, Quinn Wright, Kirsten Cousins, Jack Wolff, Adit Mukherjee, Randall Johnson, and Will Koury had an excellent performance on the weekend. They represented Ottawa Hills with fine play, great sportsmanship, and true class! Thanks to all of our opponents and their sportsmanship that made this prestigious event a memorable experience for our team!

Preliminary Rounds (5 wins, 4 losses):

Ottawa Hils loses to BASIS Scottsdale B (Arizona) 295-185.

Ottawa HIlls loses to Harmony Science North Austin (Texas) 355-210. (We had a great start in this match, and there were several lead changes against one of the tournament favorites. In the end this team went 15-0 to become the SSNCT National Champions, and we're proud to have held them to their lowest point total in the tournament even if we couldn't beat them!)

Ottawa Hills defeats Clinton-Massie (Ohio) 180-150. (Great match, coming right down to the wire! Four lead changes!)

Ottawa Hills defeats Happy Valley (Tennessee) 305-255. (Down 210-40 at the half, Ottawa Hills came roaring back to answer nine of the next ten toss-ups to steal the match! Adam Wright incredibly answered 7 of the 9 toss-ups Ottawa Hills got in the second half!)

Ottawa Hills defeats Muldrow (Oklahoma) 275-175. (Another tense match where we had a come-from-behind win!)

Ottawa Hills loses to Glasgow B (Kentucky) 210-340. (A back-and-forth affair with eight lead changes and two ties during the match!)

Ottawa Hills loses to Piasa Southwestern (Illinois) 355-155.

Ottawa Hills defeats West Point C (Alabama) 320-0.

Ottawa Hills defeats Southern Fulton (Pennsylvania) 340-210. (Had to come from behind to win and make the playoffs!)

Playoffs (2 losses):

Ottawa Hills loses to Port Jefferson (New York) 465-185.

Ottawa Hills loses to North White (Indiana) 260-240! (This match saw a lead change after nearly every question, and time outs were used in the final minutes as both teams tried to snatch the win in the final moments. Sadly for the Green Bears, a few missed questions were picked up by our savvy opponents, who managed their time wisely to prevent us from taking victory. Although we didn't win and got knocked out in this match, it was a great match, and our opponent was gracious and classy in victory.)

Senior Adam Wright's individual performance ranked him 30th out of 329 players in the tournament, and freshman Will Koury had the second highest individual average out of any freshman in the tournament! Click here for complete team and individual results.

NAQT: Olmsted Falls "Battle of the Buzz

The Ottawa Hills Green Bears entered two teams into the annual Olmsted Falls "Battle of the Buzz" NAQT Quiz Bowl tournament in the Cleveland area on February 7, 2015. The Varsity team of Kathleen Johnson, Adam Wright, Quinn Wright, Jack Wolff, Waverly Hart, Maeve McBride, and Kirsten Cousins went 3-4 in a tough varsity field; at least one of the losses could've gone our way with just  one lucky break or two. That is a good record in the competitive field that was there that day. The JV team of Adit Mukherjee, Randall Johnson, Will Koury, Steven Randall, Urvish Patel, and Mason Langenderfer went 4-3 with one of their losses literally coming by less than one question! It was a great team effort. We had a nice Saturday of cameraderie and trivia!

Overall Record on the season for all teams, all matches: 47 wins and 30 losses.
