Runners beginning the race

This year’s Ottawa Hills Back to School 5K Race generated more than $6,000 to support 2020 After Prom activities. The annual event drew 217 registered walkers and runners and more than 50 volunteers, said event organizer Sally McQueen.

Event organizers wanted to share a big thank you to …

  • T-shirt sponsors: Franklin Park Pediatrics, Brittany Potts & Toledo Orthodontics, and Bobby Jorgensen’s Kistler Ford.
  • Committee chairs: Vanessa Prince (registration), Jenny Siefried (public relations), Julie Kim (refreshments), Pam Byrne (sponsors), Rebecca McLean (logistics), and Erica Silk (volunteers).

This year’s overall winner was village resident Kevin Egan, who crossed the finish with a clock time of 16:40:2. Winners also were selected for the following categories: top overall finisher (male and female), top finishers: masters level (male and female), and top male and female in these age brackets: 9 and under, 10 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 24, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, and 60 and over.
