Ottawa Hills Local Schools will once again be part of the annual Pack-a-Pick Up Challenge organized by WTOL 11. The TV station has picked 10 area high schools to participate. Each gets a chance to bring non-perishable food items to a home football game to benefit SeaGate Food Bank of Northwest Ohio. The winning school (determined by weight of donated items) receives $500 from WTOL.
Ottawa Hills’ time to shine is Friday, Sept. 20, as the football team takes on Stryker at 7 p.m. at Niedermeier Stadium. The entire community is invited to participate by bringing items to the game that night.
For students, the drive occurs throughout the week. Different competitions between sports teams and grades fuels a friendly competition. Then, the goods collected throughout the week inside the Junior/Senior High School are brought to the truck, which will be parked near the entrance to the stadium. The fun and excitement will be on live TV.
Charlie’s Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram sponsors the Pack-a-Pick Up Challenge. Appropriately, the truck being filled is a Jeep Ramp truck.
To help with promotion, WTOL provides the high school athletic offices with posters and flyers, as well as scripts to be read both as part of daily school announcements and at home football games. Here is the full fall schedule for the Challenge:
