Ottawa Hills High School Pep Band played at several boys’ and girls’ home basketball games over the last few months. The Feb. 15 game against Otsego was their last appearance.
In addition to the “National Anthem,” the OH Pep Band plays from a binder full of energetic selections. Students help select the music they feel fits the situation. Shorter selections include “Chocolate Cake” (borrowed with permission from the University of Toledo), “Let’s Go Bears,” “Rock and Roll Part 2” (The Hey Song), “Dies Irae,” “Night on Bald Mountain,” and “Mars.”
Longer selections include “Thrift Shop,” Soul Finger,” “Free Ride,” “Wiggle,” and more. The Drumline plays parts of its cadence series to help fire up the crowd as well.
“Since 2007, the Pep Band has led the Green Bears’ basketball teams to a combined record of 98-22, a win percentage of 89 percent,” said Michael Leeds, instrumental music director. “Fans of both sides have commented on the fine job our young musicians do and the energy we bring to the games.”
We appreciate school spirit the pep band brings to Green Bear Nation!
