OH earns Shaw Memorial School Award - again!

Ottawa Hills Junior/Senior High School was one of only 14 high schools statewide this year to earn the Harold C. Shaw Memorial School Award. The award is the highest achievement possible for schools competing at State Science Day. OH has now received the honor for two consecutive years.

This year, 258 schools (and 800 students) participated; the event was conducted virtually because of COVID-19. There were two ways for schools to earn the honor:

  • have at least four students receive a “Superior” rating from judges for their science presentation
  • have at least four projects with 80 percent of the students receiving a “Superior” and no “Good” ratings.

State Science Day is an event sponsored by The Ohio Academy of Science has sponsored the State Science Day since 1949. In addition to Ottawa Hills, the other schools were:

  • Bishop Leibold School – East and West Campus (Dayton)
  • Carroll High School (Dayton)
  • Hathaway Brown School (Shaker Heights)
  • Hicksville High School (Hicksville)
  • Hilltop High School (West Unity)
  • Lincoln High School (Gahanna)
  • Mason Middle School (Mason)
  • Rutherford B. Hayes High School (Delaware)
  • St. Columban (Loveland)
  • St. Mary Immaculate Conception (Wooster)
  • Toledo Islamic Academy (Sylvania)
  • Upper Arlington HS (Upper Arlington)
  • Warsaw Elementary School (Warsaw)
